A common skin condition called acne causes your skin's pores to clog. Blackheads and whiteheads are caused by pore blockage.

People with acne have a natural phobia for makeup probably because of how an experience with makeup made their acne worse. Technically, most makeup products do not cause acne, but there are some ingredients that can cause acne in certain products. These ingredients can block pores and encourage the growth of acne-causing bacteria.

Should acne scare you off makeup?

Makeup is used by several individuals with acne to make it less visible, hence makeup is great after all. The most crucial thing to keep in mind as far as makeup is concerned is to choose products that don't trigger acne and create a skincare routine that is suitable for your skin type. With the appropriate makeup, you can maintain healthy-not-perfect skin.

Basic considerations for makeup lovers with acne

  1. The oil-free foundation works best for women with both mild and severe acne. You can use any kind of creamy foundation; just make sure the box specifies oil-free. Oil-based foundations can simply make your already oily skin look worse.
  2. To disguise blemishes, choose a concealer or foundation that is an exact match for your skin tone; otherwise, the dot on your pimple will resemble a stinger.
  3. Using a moisturizer when you have acne may seem contradictory, but acne creams and treatments can overdry the skin, causing flaky skin, which is unsightly.
  4. Before applying foundation, use a moisturizer with SPF and a foundation primer, both of which contribute to the easy application of the foundation.
  5. It's crucial to regularly clean your makeup sponges and brushes to combat acne-causing bacteria.

You may need to take a break from all the concealers, foundations, and beautiful makeup for a while. Also, try not to fall asleep with makeup on. While some skincare experts claim that overuse of cosmetics, particularly foundations, can cause acne breakouts, others insist that the issue lies in the ingredients and not the use. Generally, they all agree that using a good cleanser to wipe off makeup at the end of the day would greatly reduce the chances of breakouts.

Taking a break from makeup can aid in the skin's self-healing process. Makeup is a beauty enhancer, but you need to have mercy on your pretty face too. Reine Africaine calls the period of rest from makeup a "pretty face holiday." We advise  individuals to take at least one day off every week.
