There is nothing more frustrating than premature aging. Everyone desires a younger looking, glowing skin. At Reine Africaine, we believe your desires aren't misplaced and we are here to help curb premature aging while helping you achieve that firm, elastic skin.

As one gets older, the rate of skin cell turnover reduces thus leading to signs of aging such as wrinkles and sagging. When these changes appear earlier than expected, it is referred to as premature aging.
Several factors play into premature aging. We'd be considering some of these important factors.

    1. Stress

Research reveals that cortisol, the most prevalent stress hormone, can break down the collagen in your skin. Cortisol prevents your skin cells from naturally replenishing elastin and collagen at the normal rate. And as we all know, the most significant cause of wrinkling is the loss of elastin and collagen. The more stressed out you are, the more cortisol your body produces. It is a good idea to slow down and take out time to relax. One way to reduce stress and its adverse effect on your skin is indulging in a self care day, whatever that looks like to you. A bubble bath, sleeping longer or a luxurious day at the spa.

    2. Glycation

This is a chemical reaction mainly caused by the excess sugar we ingest but also oxidative stress and UV radiation. Research shows that glycation is one of the main causes of skin aging. It occurs when excess glucose combines with elastin and collagen which sets off a chemical reaction that forms destructive molecules known as Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs). Overtime, the AGE accumulates in the dermis and makes collagen rigid, meaning it loses its ability to keep skin firm. One way to deal with glycerin is by undergoing a glycerin treatment at a spa. These treatments would help break down the glucose molecules as well as prevent glycation from forming.

    3. Sun Exposure

Ultraviolet radiation from the sun causes DNA changes in the skin that can lead to wrinkles, pigmentation, reduced skin elasticity, degradation of skin texture, and many other signs of skin aging. Sun exposure damages five major parts of the skin, involving the epidermis, dermis, blood vessels, sebaceous glands and melanocytes. Dermatologists recommend the daily regular use of sunscreen to prevent the absorption of UVA by the skin thus preventing premature aging.

    4. Lifestyle

Premature aging in most people is caused by certain habits such as excessive alcohol intake which can dehydrate the body causing skin to sag and lose shape. Toxins in cigarette smoke can expose the skin to oxidative stress which causes signs of aging. A drastic lifestyle change such as eating the right diet, exercising and getting enough rest might just be the game changer in achieving a younger looking skin.

Now that you know all that can lead to premature aging, we hope you make the lifestyle changes that would give you the skin you deserve.
