Although, many still consider them an extreme beauty treatment due to the believe that chemicals are dangerous to skin health. But in fact, there are several chemicals that are beneficial to your skin
A chemical peel is a procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin which causes trauma or injury to your skin's layers. The skin layers eventually peels off to reveal improved skin tone and texture.
Chemical Peels are used to treat dark patches, acne, wrinkles, roughly and dry skin, and discolouration.
If you are considering booking a chemical peel on your next appointment at the spa? At Reine Africaine, we've curated a list of 5 things you should know before getting a chemical peel.
1. Skin health
The best way to benefit from a chemical peel is to have your skin in great shape before the peel. Be more diligent with your skincare routine.
2. Consult your esthetician
There are various types of chemical peels depending on the depths. We have the light, medium and deep. Discuss your expectations with your skincare professional and they'd advise on what type to get based on your expectations and skin type. They'd also inform you of all the necessary after-care such as sleeping on your back or using specific cream to prevent infection.
3. Prep your skin
Most chemical peels respond better to skin that isn't damaged. Thus protect your skin barrier by moisturizing as well as using a SPF of at least 30 or higher. Exfoliation, waxing and dermabrasion and makeup should be avoided prior to your appointment.
4. Stay hydrated
Your skin should be well hydrated on the day of your chemical peel. Drink lots of water. Also, avoid exfoliating or using products that dry your skin prior to your appointment.
5. Disclose any medication use
Discuss any medication you're currently using with your skincare professional. Depending on this information, your esthetician might recommend you stop using these drugs prior to your procedure. Since, some drugs such as birth control pills have been known to interfere with the acids used during chemical peels.
